Emma holds a master’s in outdoor and environmental education from Alaska Pacific University, where she studied decision-making among high-altitude mountain guides. She works as a program manager for the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE) and has edited two volumes of The Snowy Torrents. Her writing on avalanches and the outdoors has appeared in Outside, Powder (RIP), on The Dirtbag Diaries, and in her book, Dead Reckoning: Learning from Accidents in the Outdoors. She lives in Anchorage with her husband and two mostly-good dogs.
