Observation: Turnagain
Location: Turnagain Pass -Eastside and Johnson / Lynx
Drove Turnagain Pass down to Johnson Pass trailhead. Divided photos into Seattle Ridge and East Side/ Johnson-Lynx
Obvious signs of instability
Observer Comments
Numerous avalanches. Of note was the well connected slab on the SW face of Eddies (see photos).
Weather
37 degrees at the Tincan Pullout. Partial clearing around noon gave us some good visibility into the alpine, but the storm quickly rolled back in with hard rain above 1000' at 1300.
Snow surface
The snow at the road is completely saturated (rain runnels abound). Lack of snow on trees indicates rain and strong winds through the pass. Thin or no snow coverage south of Sunburst.
Wind scouring on Wolverine
Storm slab avalanche on Eddies
Large, well connected slab avalanche on Eddies. Buried surface hoar is the likely culprit.
Sunburst North and West aspect. No obvious avalanches noted.
Magnum North and West aspect. No obvious avalanches noted.
Wet loose avalanches in Lynx Creek drainage.
Little or no snow and rain puddles at Johnson Pass North trailhead.
