Observation: Turnagain
Location: Tincan Trees from the Center Ridge Parking Lot
Center Ridge to Tincan trees 1770′. Great skiing on low angle slopes.
Obvious signs of instability
Observer Comments
Whoomphing. The most recent avalanche we saw was on the north side of Sunburst from two days ago.
Weather
Mostly cloudy, light south winds, trace of new snow, temps in the low 20's.
Snow surface
Fluffy, new snow over a supportable base. Ski penetration about 30cm. Boot penetration was about 110cm.
Snowpack
We dug two pits on our tour.
The first pit was at 1560', south aspect, 19 degree slope and was 120cm deep. It resulted in an ECTP23 down 60cm from surface on 8mm surface hoar.
The average of three pits at 1770', northwest aspect, 20 degree slope was 125cm deep. It resulted in an ECTP25 down 65cm on the same 8mm surface hoar. Video of this pit will be emailed to Aleph.
