Location: Tincan, std route to common bowl
Toured from parking lot up through trees along the standard skin track and up to the alpine.
Obvious signs of instability
Observer Comments
numerous large avalanches on many aspects around the pass.
Weather
-Partly cloudy in the morning becoming cloudy at 13:00 and then clearing through the rest of the day.
-Temps were high 30's to 40 degrees at lower elevations and high 20's to low 30's in the alpine.
-Winds calm below 2600' and light above that.
-No precipitation.
Snow surface
1000' to 2000' hard supportable rain crust and rain rivulets, 0 ski penetration.
2000' to 2600' supportable rain crust, mild rivulets and 1 cm ski penetration.
2600' up breakable crust 2-3 cm thick going to 1 cm. ski penetration 4-8 cm.
Below 2300' on solar aspects crust was softening by 14:30 and after.
Snowpack
no format pits but a few hand pits in the 2700' - 2900' elevations showed multiple crusts and wind layers with moderate shears between layers.
Snow beneath crusts below 2300'was very wet. Above 2300' moist
