Surface hoar up 1400'
Faceting settled snow, wind crusts, wind slab, completely scoured or old crusts, old surface hoar exposed... VARIABLE and wind affected overall
Shallow overall and variable. Poor structure and poor travel quality
Faceted/bottomless to 2100' 1-3' of snow on the ground. Full boot pen to ground. Skiing on or near ground/vegetation in most spots.
Wind exposed areas are stripped, wind crusted or hard wind slabs.
Dug two snow pits. Both had weak facets near the ground resting just above old degrading melt freeze layer.
Pit #1: 2100', W aspect, 30 degrees, 45 cm. CT 8, CT 15, ECTP 12 on facet/crust interface
Pit#2: 2500' W aspect, 34 degrees, 70 cm. Buried surface hoar down 25 cm below surface, facets down 50 cm below surface. CT 11 on facets x 3, ECTP 13 on buried surface and ECTP 22 on facets.
