Avalanche: Turnagain

Our group toured the normal uptrack to the SW face of magnum. Once the ridge was gained, we toured east and transitioned after the first summit.

Looking down at our intended line it looked as though it may harbor pockets of wind effected snow. I was the first rider and made 3 turns. I made a 4th turn under a roll over and triggered a wind slab. I was knocked off my feet and carried about 100’ but was able to ride out to the left edge uninjured .

Slab was very slow moving and didn’t propagate or step down into other layers. Depth was only about 6-12”, Crown was probably 100’ wide and runout was about 200-300’ where it gathered on a small bench.

The rest of our group turned back and skied the normal down route. No other red flags or slides seen. Unfortunately, no photos or data were collected due to unfamiliarity of snowpack.
