Observation: Turnagain

Location: Sunburst from Center Ridge lot

Route & General Observations

We toured from the Center Ridge parking lot towards Sunburst up to 2,100′ for day 2 of the AGC Rec level 1 avalanche course.

Observer Comments

The skier triggered deep slab avalanche from two days ago on Tincan Proper was visible.
No other red flags during our day where we traveled.

Around 10 degrees F. Calm winds. Sunny. Valley fog up to about 1,600'.

Snow surface

10-15cm small Near Surface Facets sitting on the rain crust. Surface Hoar "bathtub ring" from about 1,600' to 2,000' (didn't travel higher).


Pit tests at 2,000' W aspect:
HS 120cm.
ECTP21, 20cm down (below rain crust). Student pits were half ECTP23-30 and half ECTN21-30 results on same layer.
Basal facets present.
