My ski partner and I toured up sunburst this afternoon using the traditional route. While waiting on the ridge for a break in the clouds. We heard a thunderous boom. My first thought was DOT blasting along the rail belt. Within a few seconds we noticed a powder blast coming off the south face of Kickstep. Based on the south face it could have been a glide crack release. However we speculated a cornice fell onto the rock face.
The photos submitted are pretty m’eh, I know. Kickstep was obscured by cloud cover, and I was slow on the draw to capture the powder blast. The first photo is a close up. The slide occurred just above center ridge where the rocks are most exposed vertically. The second photo is higher res, again Kickstep is mostly obscured by clouds.
