Route & General Observations

Skied Rae Wallace laps all day. Triggered slab avalanches on every lap. Slides ranged in size from 20′ wide X 0.5′ deep X 50′ long to 100′ wide X 1.0′ deep X 400′ long. Two of the slides had crowns up to 1.5′ deep. One slide (20′ X 0.5′ X 50′) was triggered on the Rae Wallace up-track chute from below by the third person in line and went across the skin track. Two of the slides broke above skiers. The two largest slides (both 100′ X 1.0′ X 500′) were triggered consecutively a couple turns apart while skiing directionally across the slope away from the first slide. I was briefly caught and carried by an 1.5′ deep slide that broke above me while skiing thru an steep pocket, but was able to dive thru the avalanche and arrest on the bed surface – no harm caused.

*** We suspect that Buried Surface Hoar is the weak layer culprit for all these avalanches
