I joined CPG yesterday to their North Bench zone in Divide Creek. We landed at a 4,000-foot ridge line and
skied down to the moraine at about 3,000′.
The skiing southwest into Divide Creek was variable wind crust up to four inches and soft wind textured
snow. We saw no signs of instability or recent avalanches.
Henry Munter and I dug to ground along the margin of the glacier at 3660 feet on a SW aspect. We found
129cm snow total. This seemed about average from probing. Most of the snow was pencil windslab. One
weak layers was CTH Q2 on 0.5mm facets at 106cm below a thick MF crust. Another weak layer was in the
depth hoar that varied in thickness between 2-15cm and ranged from solid ice to well developed facets to
3mm (CTH Q3). Other probing showed this same basal facet layer. We felt this basal layer was locked in and
not worrisome.
Thanks for your incredible work!
