Experienced Whumping above 2300 ft
Thin overcast, calm winds, Occasional flurries, 12degF,
26 cm new loose snow overlying 10 cm settled powder. Above 2900ft on SE ridge of Manitoba new snow draped over large wind ripples related to earlier wind event.
At 2600ft HS = 165 cm. Pit down to 120 cm. Top down 36 cm rimed new snow and settled powder, including 1 cm 1F wind crust? overlying 26 cm knife-hard wind crust. Below that rounds to 90 cm. Lower 30 cm rounding facets.
At 120 cm got ECTN24Q2 at base of rounding facet layer. Maybe be part of facet garden around alders in bottom of pit. Shovel shear gave STM@26cmQ3. Experienced whumping over large areas nearby. Probably due to new snow and dense underlying wind crust collapsing on rounding facet layer.
