Standard uptrack to the peak of Manitoba. Lots of slope testers skied out most of the face before us.

The east face of Fresno had naturals in most of the steeper chutes to lookers right. Ski tracks to lookers left on the lower angle slopes showed no natural activity.

Weather & Snow Characteristics

Weather

Clear calm and sunny. Inversion was out in full force, -13C(8F) at the hut at 1000Ft, -4C(40F) at 2800FT.

Snow surface

Below 1500FT surface hoar
Above 1500FT soft low density new snow

Snowpack

Hand pit at 1500FT showed low density new snow on the top with denser storm slab on top of the basal facets.

Probed between 2000 and 2800FT, depth ranges from 85cm to 200cm averaged 90cm at 2000FT, and averaged 110cm at 2800FT.

Pit at 2800FT, 24deg slope, SW aspect
-on the main face and likely prior skier affected
-didn't find the basal facets
-likely not a representative location with height of snow at 85cm
ECTX, was noth able to isolate all the way to ground due to the pencil hard snow at the bottom of the snowpack.
