Observation: Turnagain

Alaska Avalanche School Level two course day three. During our tour up Sunburst we were supported by
coral reef snow conditions (melt freeze rain crust) to 2600′ on the Sunburst ridge. No signs of instability
were observed with the exception of widespread glide crack formation throughout Turnagain Pass.
Difficult skinning and kick stepping on the ridge, due to hard and slick conditions, steered us across
Taylor creek to Magnum. Here we took a look at the snow on a north facing cross loaded gully. Pit
results are included. Nothing of significant concern was found at our location. Difficult conditions but it
was a great day to be in the mountains with good folks.
