Route & General Observations

Visibility limited. Calm down low, light east wind higher. -5C. 25cm HST, low density, no slab. The early
December crust collapsed as we skinned. At 1800′, still below alderline, we dug around on a few aspects.
65cm average HS. Our compression tests progressively compressed and crumbled the poor structure of fist
storm snow over brittle crusts mixed with facets below. ECTN. The surprise was our RB2. It failed across
the block at the HST/1mm SH on the early Dec. crust; hard to tell the quality because the storm snow was
so soft – we couldn’t see the shear layer except for the failure visible at the front of the block, resistant
planar.
