Observation: Hatcher Pass

Location: Lower Eldorado Bowl and Microdot tour (surf and turf)

Route & General Observations

Toured lower Eldorado and Microdot. Last night at 4000ft 23cm of cold new snow fell during light airs on the Veteran’s Day SuperCrust (TM). The main avalanche problem seems to be loose dry. Pertinent negatives include no evidence of wind slab or storm slab formation, no recent storm cycle natural avalanches, no whumping, no shooting cracks, and multiple parties testing snow stability in steeper terrain. Poor visibility and the low density of the new snow make avoiding glide cracks and old debris a challenge. Nice to have some three dimensional skiing again.

Pit results from Lower Eldorado Bowl at 4000ft. East facing slope with a 31 degree pitch.
Total snow depth: 115cm
PS: 30cm
PB: 40cm
STH down 45cm on a rain crust
CT13BRK down 23cm on SuperCrust (TM)
