Avalanche: Chugach State Park
Location: Kanchee Peak
Toured up Long Lake Valley, up the S face of Tanaina, down the N side of Tanaina and then down Show Hawk and around to the Dome. We had some minor settling on the south side of Tanaina and there were signs up roller balls from the day before, however the N side exhibited no signs of avalanche activity.
Avalanche Details
On the N side of Kanchee we saw two large natural avalanches. These were the only signs of avalanches we had seen all day. They appear to be relatively recent however we did not climb up to investigate them. Each one was approx. 400' wide and ran for approx 1000'.
