Route & General Observations

Toured up through the meadow and gained the ridge line. Toured to 2800′ just above treeline.

None observed. The avalanche cycle from the 26/27th is impressive.
Poor structure and propagation potential.

Single digits at the truck and high 20Fs during the tour

Snow surface

New surface hoar
Variable wind crust above treeline
Zipper sun crust formed on steep due south 1 cm below the surface

Snowpack

Average depth 1 meter
Rain crust to 1500' 4" below the surface
Probing and pole tests showed hard over soft snow (basal facets) throughout the terrain.
Pit # 1, 1900' E aspect, 28 degrees HS 100 cm
1F slab over facets trending from 4F to F at the ground. 5 cm of depth hoar at ground. This was the layer of concern in all stability tests. ECTP 8, ECTP 16, ECTP 12 all sudden planar

Pit # 2, 2800', E aspect 32 degrees
1F-P hard wind slab over facets. ECTP 14, CT 12 x2 failed on an facets over and old melt freeze crust (that has also faceted) 5 cm from ground.
