Avalanche: Turnagain

Avalanche on the south face of Eddies was remote triggered by a skier, an average-size woman, skiing down the usual Eddies uptrack on top of the south ridge. There were a number of other tracks on the ridge, at least three older tracks were nearer to the avalanche than the triggering track. Crown depth was 12-14 inches, the depth of the MLK BSH in that area. The maximum slope angle of the slab was about 45 degrees and included a glide crack. A pit dug earlier in the day about 150 yards up the ridge from the avalanche, on the same south aspect, thogh in a place usually more wind-effected, produced an ECTX by conventional tapping though the BSH was only about 12 inches down. A solid "Chugach tap" (stomp) broke the slab, 2/3 slid off the MLK BSH, the part underneath the shovel didn't budge.
