This glide crack avalanche at about 2800′ was observed on Tuesday
Jan 5. We are not sure of the exact date that it avalanched. We
think it might have avalanched sometime on Monday, since it
snowed a trace on Sunday night and there is no dusting of snow on
the bed surface (ground).
This is a good example of how unpredictable glide cracks can be.
There has not been any significant weather to really shock the
snowpack recently. Temps have warmed up, but they have been in
the mid 20’s at this elevation. Plus, there has only been a
little to a trace of precip recently at Turnagain Pass.
Since this glide crack avalanched, then it is possible for other
glide cracks to avalanche today and in the near future.
