Did another day of snow pack assessment / student lead tours at Eddies with AAS
Level 2. Another 20+ cm of new snow had fallen since 01/22/12 1500, ended up breaking
the trail again. Unreactive snow pack despite the added storm snow, no cracking
or whumphing, no response from small test slopes.
Did test + pits at the Eddies basemeadow below the uptrack trees. Nothing
surprising in results, but did find the buried layer of surface hoar ~60 cm
down. A student was able to get it to collapse after having an ECTX result by
whaling on column. The layer collapsed and the storm slab was easy to separate
at the storm snow/old snow interface. There it was, 2mm striated feathers
dangling from the base of the failed slab.
