Observation: Turnagain

Location: Cornbiscut flats

Route & General Observations

Parking was sparse. Was able to pull the truck into the Cornbiscut lot that had a foot of low density snow when we arrived. It turned into mashed potatoes by the time we returned, was still unplowed when we left. Dug on a southwest aspect around 2000’ in a moderately wind sheltered spot. Did not isolate the old interface bellow the March madness snow, the melt freeze crust was noticeable about 170 down. Found no propagation. Plenty of crumbling early in the test through the top 30cm. ECT20N 60cm down on what appeared to be a consolidated wind layer. The same layer broke underfoot in 3 ft wide blocks when jumping on the pit walls to fill it in. Warming was notable throughout the day, partly sunny up until a graupel storm that we experienced in the parking lot when we left around 4.
