No signs of instability were seen
Took the botanical approach north of the magnum lot through the alders and IT to base of the West face and up to ridge. Skied on south and west aspects.
No signs of instability were seen
Clear skies all day.
Temp at road and valley bottom were below zero. At ridge top, it was high teens to maybe low 20’s. Sun was definitely putting out some heat (relatively).
Winds were calm.
Even distribution of about 14” of powder at all elevations which is pretty much turned into recycled powder. Slight isolated wind crust on ridge tops. Very little in the way of wind slabs but may have rotted out with the cold weather. Surface hoar present and growing at all elevations.
Did not do any formal stability tests. Hand pits showed good bonding and the lack of slab formation.
Of note, there was lots of fast sluff activity on slopes where they were pushing high 30’s into low 40 degrees.
