For companion rescue day our class spread out onto the flats around Center Ridge parking area.
Obvious signs of instability

Two different groups experienced whumpfing with 3 total whumpfs. Experienced cracking around skis.
Weather
Partly cloudy, calm, no precipitation, temperature in the upper teens to lower twenties.
Snow surface
Deep, fluffy, light density powder.
Snowpack
Two feet of snow now sit on top of the decomposing and faceting melt freeze crust near the road. Ski penetration was knee deep. Boot penetration ranged from hip to armpit deep. In many areas it was easy to plunge through the melt freeze crust sinking in up to your armpits.
