Went out Center Ridge with two eager Canadians. Aborted my Plan A due to red flags present (whumphing, shooting cracks, tons of wind loading previous and current) as well as the wind loading patterns were widespread and variable, my confidence in avoiding windslabs was very low.

Several small D1 Natural wind pockets had released during last night and observed through the day. I would imagine a human trigger would initiate larger wind slabs.

3 whumphs while traveling out Center Ridge. 1 significant shooting crack.
Sunny. Strong NW winds transporting snow all day. Temps in low teens.
Widespread variable wind effect.
1 snowpit dug near the end of Center Ridge at 2,100 ft SW aspect, 20 degree slope. The target was to observe the state of the mid January rain crust and facets, as well as see if buried surface hoar was present out there. Surface hoar was barely there and unreactive but it's only one hole. ECTP28 on 1mm facets above the rain crust, 55cm down. See photos below.
