Avalanche: Hatcher Pass

Location: April bowl and behind april bowl

Route & General Observations

Went up and over the pass from the palmer side. Made a small climb on the north side of april bowl right off summit lake. When I got down back on the lake the small chute broke and came down. We pressed on heading south. Just after we dropped down off the lake into the valley 2 snowboarders in our group had triggered the entire face to slide. As we wrapped around behind april bowl we found a safe places to play. Right as we were heading out, I the snowmachiner made a small climb on a west facing slope and had a partial burial of my sled

Our group had 3 close calls. The 3rd partially buried a sled. No one was hurt or buried, just needed a change of underwear. 1 slide happened below April bowl, the other just past it dropping over from summit lake and the 3rd was on a slope behind April bowl. They were all small wind slabs less then a foot deep but this wind is just going to help those slabs grow. It seemed like every slope was just waiting to slide like a bomb ready to go.

Events of the day

After the 1st 2 close calls that imeaditly changed our plans. We found a nice drop in a safe zone to play on. As we were leaving
, I, the snow.achiner, made a small climb to turn around on a slope right next to the drop when it broke loose. I managed to stay on the sled keeping it pinned trying to stay upright.
