Location: Alaska Avalanche School 3 groups: Tincan trees, center ridge, sunburst
Day two of AAS level one snowpack observations day. I’ll describe the results that each group got in the snowpack section. Found that the rain crust disappeared at 1500 ft. and the surface hoar is growing beautifully sparkly in this weather. Fun to look around at all the tracks from everyone getting after it during this beautiful stretch of weather!

Tin can lower trees at 1300' hs=140cm, could still easily find the January 13th buried surface hoar 70 cms down. It was reactive in Compression but not in ECTs with a score of CT12 Q1.
Sunburst crew dug on West aspect 2300' and were able to get ECTP30 and CT22 on the basal facets with HS: 127cms.
Center Ridge posse dug at 1600ft, hs=125cm-155cm on a west aspect near the weather station on a 30 degree slope and got no reactive results, though the structure still found the BSH of jan.13th and significant basal facets of course.
